Hemsedal
The Scandinavian Alps — Norway's premier ski resort, above-treeline terrain, reliable snowfall, and the steepest pitches in Scandinavia.
Norwegian skiing is a different proposition from Alpine resort skiing: the culture here is rooted in cross-country and ski touring, but the alpine resort scene has matured significantly. Hemsedal, Geilo, and Trysil are the main draw for downhill skiers, offering genuine powder conditions, shorter lift queues than their Alpine peers, and a refreshingly straightforward approach to mountain life. The season peaks between January and March when the snowpack is deepest, and daylight improves significantly through February.
